How to play

Point the client at 149.50.106.44, make a GrowID on the first screen, and you are in.

Get connected

Pick your platform. The hosts method is the same everywhere: send the Growtopia domains to Beef instead of Ubisoft.

Connect on Windows using Hosts file

  1. 01

    Close Growtopia

    • Completely close Growtopia before you change anything.
    • Make sure it is not still running in the background.
  2. 02

    Open the hosts file

    • Run Notepad as administrator.
    • Press File, then Open.
    • Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc
    • Change the file type from Text Documents (*.txt) to All files (*.*).
    • Open the file named hosts.
  3. 03

    Point Growtopia at Beef

    • Remove everything already in the file.
    • Add these four lines:

    Save and play

    • Save the file.
    • Open Growtopia and you are on Beef.

    • Download PowerTunnel from github.com/krlvm/PowerTunnel/releases/latest
    • Extract the ZIP and run PowerTunnel.jar (needs Java).

    Add the hosts

    • Open Settings and add these entries to the Hosts section:

Your first hour

Punch, mine, build

Everything in a world is a block someone placed, and every block can come back out.

  • Hold punch to break a block. Tough blocks take more hits, bedrock takes none.
  • Select an item from your backpack and tap a tile to place it.
  • Broken blocks drop as items you walk over to pick up.
  • Backgrounds sit behind you, foregrounds block you. Both stack on the same tile.

Plant, splice, profit

Seeds are the whole economy. Plant them, wait, harvest, and splice for something rarer.

  • Break a block to get its seed, then plant the seed on dirt.
  • Trees grow over real time and drop fruit you can harvest again and again.
  • Drop two different seeds on the same tile to splice a brand new item.
  • Harvesting is the safest early income while you learn prices.

Lock it down

An unlocked world is anyone's world. A lock is the first thing you buy.

  • Place a World Lock to claim a world and keep strangers from breaking it.
  • Small, Big and Huge Locks protect an area inside a world you do not own.
  • Add trusted friends to a lock's access list so they can build with you.
  • World Locks double as the server's high-value currency.

Go deeper

Below the surface sit rocks, lava and everything worth digging for.

  • Mine down for gems, ores and rarer drops the surface never gives.
  • Lava and other deadly blocks hurt, so bring blocks to wall them off.
  • Doors, portals and checkpoints move you around a world once it gets big.
  • Join world events and minigames once you can hold your own.
